Team India opening batsman Shubman Gill’s England tour came to a screeching halt after he suffered a shin stress fracture following the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Gill was subsequently ruled out of the major part of the upcoming five-match Test series against the hosts starting August.
Later, the reports suggested that he has been ruled out f the entire series and the questions are still there on his participation in the remaining matches of the IPL 2021 as the recovery might take nearly three months.
While there has been no official confirmation from the BCCI yet, Shubman Gill himself put on his Instagram stories that he has indeed returned home.
In the first story, Gill posted a picture from the plane from England to India, with emojis of heartbreak, while the next story suggested he was back at his home as his family had brought a cake saying, “Welcome Home Shubi.”
BCCI had confirmed that no replacements will be provided and that Mayank Agarwal will open with Rohit Sharma in the Test series, with KL Rahul serving as the back-up opener while Abhimanyu Easwaran, the Bengal batsman, who has travelled with the team as a reserve, will be on standby.
