NEW DELHI: Boxing’s National Camp in Patiala has a new but familiar face, after the Sports Authority of India (SAI) approved the appointment of Dan Jefferson as the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Until now, Jefferson, who is from Scotland, was working full-time with JSW’s Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS) in Bellary, Karnataka, where he was taking care of the boxing programme. He has already worked with some of the top Indian boxers like Vikas Krishan Yadav and Satish Kumar, who are supported by JSW Sports.
Jefferson had been with IIS since April 2019. But his updated LinkedIn bio now shows him as a SAI employee for BFI from August 2020.
“He is now working with the boxing federation,” a source close to the development told Timesofindia.com “When the boxers had a camp at IIS, they struck a good relationship with Jefferson. He is now at NIS (National Institute of Sports in Patiala).”
However, Jefferson himself and BFI’s High Performance Director Santiago Nieva expressed reservations about speaking to the media on the appointment without official permission.
“Actually I need to wait for confirmation from the Boxing federation…before I speak to any media. Once I have a confirmation, I will be able to speak to you,” said Jefferson when contacted by Timesofindia.com.
The introduction in Jefferson’s bio on Linkedin read: “Strength and Conditioning coach at the boxing federation of India, leading on the national boxing programmes for men and women senior teams and junior development programme. Previously at Inspire Institute of sport leading on their boxing programme.”
Jefferson, who completed his Bachelors degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the Abertay University in Scotland, is already in Patiala.
