The fire broke out late on Thursday night
KANPUR: A fire broke out at a garment outlet in a city mall on late Thursday night. The garment outlet, on the ground floor of a prominent mall in Bada Chauraha area, had no customers when the fire broke out around 10.30pm. There were only some employees in other outlets.
The police said that the garment outlet, located near the mall’s entrance, was closed with regard to the lockdown guidelines at around 9pm. “The fire, however, was noticed by some employees of other outlets, who alerted mall security staff and its management. When the mall security staff failed to control the flames, they alerted local police and fire department. Subsequently, the fire was controlled by the firemen with the help of fire tenders. It took around one hour to douse the flames,” said inspector Kotwali Sanjeevkant Mishra.
“Prima facie, it seems that the blaze was caused by a short circuit at the garment outlet. However, investigations are still underway to ascertain exact cause of the fire,” said a fire officer.
A senior official of the mall said that the fire was controlled in time and that the normal operations will not be affected. “There was no customer at the time of the incident. We have all fire safety measures in place in our mall,” he added.
