Ganesh festival is special for everyone. It becomes more special for theatre artists as due to holidays many theatre groups plan shows across states. Going to tours and staging plays brings happiness to these artistes. Considering the festival season, back to back shows and travel sounds hectic but for artistes it is an opportunity to gather experiences, enjoy local cuisine and have fun while entertaining the audience. Actor comedian Pandharinath Kamble aka Paddy misses such tours.

Pandharinath says, “This is the one of the seasons for the theatres and apart from that it is a fun to visit different cities usually we don’t stage plays at that often. During Ganesh festivals we have staged plays in Konkan, Vidarbh, Belgaum in Karnataka and other nearby areas. During these tours we are away from family but closer to another family that is our theatre group. Sometimes we used to return to Mumbai only after the Ganesh festival.”

During this period, theatre groups have many shows telling about the maximum number of shows he did during one of the last years, Paddy says, “During one of such Ganesh festivals we staged plays for nine days continuously in Konkan and later we went to Vidarbha area to stage some more. During those 19 days we staged over 20 shows. That was the record for me and the team to stay away from home during the Ganpati festival.”
